INTENDED USE

Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) is an enzyme encoded by the DPYD gene and is involved in the metabolism of fluoropy- rimidines, chemotherapeutics used in the treatment of some solid tumors. These drugs can cause severe gastrointestinal and hematologic toxicities due to the presence of certain mutations of the DPYD gene that determine the reduced activity of the encoded enzyme. Investigating these mutations before starting treatment helps physicians to determine the optimal dose of the drug and reduces the risk of toxicity.
